Every year 1st October marks the National Week Against Loneliness, raising awareness of the growing social problem of loneliness in later life. 2020 and Covid brought its challenges, but at Granny’s Soup we love a challenge. On 1 October 2020, Chef Freek van Noortwijk and our grandmas made a delicious Thai curry soup with coconut milk and lime on the Amstelveld in Amsterdam, which was delivered to 100 lonely older people in Amsterdam. Our grandmas worked as an incredible team that day, chopping and mixing pumpkin, carrot and sweet potato. Together with fresh herbs and a touch of creative magic from Chef Freek, this recipe became extra special. Our Thai curry has quickly become a frontrunner of the range and gives a fresh, zingy boost to the day.
